Add & Manage Categories in Quick Links

This article will show you how to add, modify, and delete a category to the Quick Links module.

Add a Quick Links Category

 

  1. Sign in to your site
  2. Select Modules, and on the Content tab, select Quick Links
    Modules menu with Quick Links selected.
  3. Select Add Category
    Add category button.
  4. Fill in the information on the form
    Fill in quick links category fields.
    • Category Name (required): Create a category name
    • Start Date: Enter a start display date to auto-publish the category
      Note: The default is blank and indicates the category will remain published until unpublished annually.
    • End Date: Enter an end display date to auto-unpublish
      Note: The default is blank and indicates the category will remain published until unpublished manually.
    • Permissions: Setting permissions at the category level is suggested
      • View: May view the live side only
      • Author: Submit new items and modify unpublished items
      • Publisher: Publish new items, modify/delete unpublished items, modify published items, and accept or reject submitted items
      • Owner: Publish new items, modify/delete unpublished items, modify/delete published items, accept/reject submitted items, create/modify categories and assign category permissions
    • Choose a saving option
      Save options.
      • Cancel: Will delete what you’ve done
      • Save: Will save the work as an unpublished draft
      • Save and Submit (Authors only): Save changes and submit for approval
      • Save and Publish: Will save the work and publish it for viewing

Modify a Quick Links Category

 

  1. Sign in to your site
  2. Select Modules, and on the Content tab, select Quick Links
    Modules menu with Quick Links selected.
  3. Find the category to modify and select Choose an Action, then Properties
    Category properties.
  4. Make the necessary modifications
    Category fields.
    • Category Name: Enter a name for the category
    • Start Date: Enter a start display date to auto-publish the category
      Note: A blank date will automatically publish the category.
    • End Date: Enter an end display date to auto-unpublish
      Note: A blank date will automatically publish the category.
    • Permissions: Set permissions at the category level
      • View: View the live side only
      • Author: Submit new items and modify unpublished items
      • Publisher: Publish new items, modify/delete unpublished items, modify published items and accept/reject submitted items
      • Owner: Publish new items, modify/delete unpublished items, modify/delete published items, accept/reject submitted items, create/modify categories and assign category permissions
  5. Select Save
    Save button.

Delete a Quick Links Category

Important Note

  • All items in a category must be unpublished and deleted before you can delete the category.

 

 

  1. Sign in to your site
  2. Select Modules, and on the Content tab, select Quick Links
    Modules menu with Quick Links selected.
  3. Select Choose an Action, then Delete next to the category
    Action menu with Delete selected.
  4. Select OK from the popup that will appear asking, Are you sure you want to delete this category?
    Delete confirmation message.

    How does the # Ref column work? Can you click on the number to see the pages where the Quick Link is visible? If not, what is it for?

I have copied a shortened version of the reply to that post below, in the hopes that it might be helpful to other users with a similar question.

     

    The Quick Links module's # Ref heading is intended to assist in determining where a Quick Links category is referenced, how many times it is referenced, and to quickly access where they are referenced. You can find more information about this feature in our View Quick Links Site References article.
