This article will show you how to create a CSV file for the subscriber list.
Important Notes
- You will want to do this in Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet software
- Microsoft Excel was used in the creation of this article
Layout
Rules
Here are several rules to follow when creating a subscriber list:
- Fields must be tab or comma-delimited
- No header row in your document
- Place each record on a separate line
- All fields must be present, even if empty
- Only the SMS number may be empty
- Allow/ignore blank lines
- Ignore duplicate entries
Fields
There are 2 options for CSV fields, Simple or Expanded
Simple Fields
Subscriber lists that use simple fields, only rely on 3
- Allows for only 3 fields
- SMS number (Formatted: ########## or ###-###-####)
- Subscription type (email, SMS, or both)
Row 1 of the spreadsheet should have its first 3 cells set to:
- Email Address | SMS # | Subscription Type
Expanded Fields
- Allows for 10 fields
- SMS
- Subscription type
- First name
- Last name
- Address 1
- Address 2
- City
- State
- Zip
Row 1 of the spreadsheet should have its first 10 cells set to:
- Email | SMS # | Subscription Type | First Name | Last Name | Address 1 | Address 2 | City | State | Zip
Note: You should use your upload instructions to determine which type of field to include.
Create a CSV Subscriber List
- Open your spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel
- Create your Subscriber List using either the Simple Field or Expanded Field layouts
- Navigate to the File tab:
- Select the Save As option:
- Select a location to save your spreadsheet:
- Change the file type to CSV (Comma delimited):
- Click the Save button:
