Beginning February 1, 2024, Google and Yahoo implemented a new email delivery rule to primarily target senders of bulk emails. CivicPlus falls within the scope of this rule.
The changes made by Google and Yahoo help protect users from spam and unwanted emails. What were once best practices for proper email authentication and deliverability best practices will become requirements.
Read more about the new sending requirements from Google and Yahoo.
Due to this change and the authentication requirements that come along with this, we cannot allow custom e-mail addresses. All emails for Notify Me and CivicSend must come from listserv@civicplus.com or you may choose your own sending service that supports SMTP relay.
Using Your Own Mail Service
If your organization plans on using your own mail service to send communications there are requirements you should be aware of, and this will require action on your part.
The service must support SMTP relay. It’s also very important to make sure that the sending service you have selected for sending meets the criteria outlined in the above blog posts from Google and Yahoo. This includes setting up SPF (protection against domain spoofing), DKIM (digital signature to prevent sender impersonation), and DMARC (protection against forged email messages) authentication among other things.
Please note that if you use your own email sending service, email bounces will no longer be tracked by CivicPlus, which means that you will need to manually remove them from your subscription lists.
You may contact our Support team with any questions or if your organization decides to move to send through a service of your choice. Our Support team can enable the configuration fields you will need to set this up.
