Instructions
- Navigate to Modules > Content > Alert Center
- Select the Settings icon
- Set the default preferences and select Save Changes
- Default View Options
- Sort Alerts By: Allows you to choose how the alerts will be sorted
- Display Alerts: Allows you to choose which alerts will display
- Display Categories: Allows you to choose which categories will display
- Results Per Page: Allows you to choose how many results show per page
- Default View Options

I'm trying to figure out why a "Brief Description" is a required field on an alert when the contents do not seem to appear anywhere. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

The Brief Description will show on the front end of your website on the Alert Center page. It does not seem like you have missed anything!
