Container Inheritance allows you to have the same format on multiple pages and only have to change it in one place. The main page is called the parent page, while the subpages are called child pages. The option is usually found in the footer of a page when selecting the container.
Set Container Inheritance
Container Inheritance allows a widget placed on a page to also display on associated sub-pages. Disabling Container Inheritance may cause subpages to display the site’s default content rather than Department-specific content.
Only System Administrators can enable or disable Container Inheritance. However, depending on the widget within the locked container, the content may be accessible from associated Back-End modules. Using Info Advanced, Quick Links, or FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) widgets in inherited containers allows users with Author or Publisher permissions to edit content in these containers.
Instructions for Setting Container Inheritance

Disable Inheritance on Subpages
This page will show you how to Disable Inheritance on subpage containers. When you disable inheritance, the container/appearance/layout will not inherit a format from the immediate parent page. This will allow you to create new appearance layouts, or allow inheritance from a different parent page.
